A controversy has erupted at the Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in Adilabad after videos of medical students filming social media reels inside the hospital surfaced online.
What has raised serious concern is not just the act itself, but the locations where these videos were shot. Instead of filming in hostels or public spaces, some students reportedly recorded reels inside operating theatres, patient wards, duty rooms and even on medical equipment.
The videos, which include dance clips, ramp walks, and skits, were later shared on social media platforms, triggering criticism from both the public and sections of the medical community.
Questions Over Discipline And Supervision
Many have called the behaviour inappropriate, especially
in a professional environment meant for patient care. Critics say the incident reflects a lack of supervision within the institution.
There is growing concern that such actions could set a wrong precedent for other students if not addressed promptly. Several voices are now demanding stricter monitoring and disciplinary action to maintain the institution’s standards.
Probe Ordered, Action Likely
Following the backlash, the RIMS administration has stepped in. Director Dr Jaisingh Rathod has ordered an internal inquiry and formed a committee of five senior professors to investigate the matter.
The committee will review the videos posted on platforms such as Instagram and identify any violations. The administration has indicated that strict action will be taken against those found guilty, in line with university rules.
Meanwhile, some of the controversial videos have reportedly been removed from social media.
Reputation At Stake
RIMS was established to provide quality healthcare to people in Adilabad and nearby regions, including parts of Maharashtra. With the addition of super-speciality services, the institute plays a crucial role in the region’s healthcare system.
However, recurring controversies have raised concerns about its reputation. Locals and observers are now urging authorities to take firm action to ensure such incidents do not undermine the institution’s credibility.
