As the World Cup-winning head coach reached his society, special arrangements were made to honour his contribution towards the historic victory. People showered rose petals, echoed the drumbeats and offered Muzumdar warm hugs to express their gratitude for his services, guiding Harmanpreet Kaur’s team to unprecedented glory.

Even when the spotlight came on him moments after the great win over South Africa in the final on Sunday, November 2, Muzumdar gave the entire credit for the victory to the players and said he was “absolutely proud” of their efforts.
“There’s no doubt about it. I don’t know, it’s not yet sink in, but it’s an unbelievable achievement by all the girls. I mean, they deserve every credit. They deserve everything that will follow from here because they’ve worked terribly hard. I know for a fact that they’ve done extremely, every Indian proud,” he told the broadcasters.
Amol Muzumdar, The Unsung Hero
While Muzumdar refused to take credit for the win, skipper Harmanpreet highlighted his influence on the team and said the “stability” and vision he brought to the table helped them grow from strength to strength.

“His arrival has changed so much in our dressing room. Before him, we had a lot of coaches going in and out. The way forward wasn’t clear. But he brought stability to the team. Everything became smooth. A lot of credit to him for shaping this team,” said Harmanpreet.
The euphoria following the World Cup victory is Muzumdar’s ultimate reward for years of hard work and struggle in the game. Despite piling on the runs as one of the legends of Indian domestic cricket, the Mumbai great never got the chance to represent India. He played 171 first-class matches and compiled a massive 11,67 runs in a career spanning two decades.
