Star opener Shafali Verma delivered a brilliant all-round performance for India in their ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 Group A match against the Netherlands at Headingley, Leeds, on Wednesday (June 17).
The 22-year-old cricketer from Rohtak, Haryana, opened the batting alongside vice-captain Smriti Mandhana and scored 55 runs off 38 balls. During her knock, she struck 10 fours and shared a 115-run opening partnership with Mandhana, who made 74 off 47 deliveries.
After shining with the bat in the first innings, Shafali made an impact with the ball as well, claiming three wickets for 20 runs in 3.2 overs.
She picked up her first wicket by breaching the defence of Sterre Kalis on the second ball of the 12th over. Shafali then struck twice in three
deliveries during her fourth over, which was also the 18th over of the Netherlands’ run chase.
