Ravi Kishan is currently enjoying a high point in his career. His performance in Kiran Rao directorial Laapataa Ladies, as well as the web series ‘Maamla Legal Hai’ was praised by one and all. He is gearing up for the release of ‘Bhabiji Ghar Par Hain: Fun On The Run’, the film adaptation of the popular sitcom. While this is a rewarding phase, Ravi Kishan’s career has had its own fair share of ups and downs. He shared that he waited patiently for 34 years to reach this point. He also recalled the time when meaningful opportunities in Bollywood were hard to come by, especially after he did Tere Naam with Salman Khan.
Ravi Kishan Recalls Lack Of Opportunities In Bollywood After Tere Naam
In a conversation with Times Of India, Ravi Kishan said that
his journey is an example for the strugglers. “After Tere Naam with Salman Khan, I felt exhausted because of the lack of opportunities. I thought yahaan bohot bheed hai, main iss race ka hissa nahi bann paunga, aur koi response nahi dega. (I thought there’s too much crowd here, I won’t be able to be part of this race, and no one will respond). Of course, there was frustration and anger, but I channelled that anger into building my own space in the Bhojpuri industry,” he recalled.
However, he said that he never blamed Bollywood, as it gave him an identity. “Hindi cinema ne mujhe pehchaan di hai and taught me everything I later applied to Bhojpuri films,” he said. He further added, “Yeh ugte sooraj ka khel hai, and that is the truth across professions. But there is also a lot of affection coming my way now, and I am grateful for that.”
Ravi Kishan Says He Waited Patiently For 34 Years
“I waited patiently for 34 years. At one point, people assumed I had been boxed into a Bhojpuri image, that I had become a politician, grown old, and would now quietly fade away. But sometimes, by God’s grace, just when people think you are finished, a filmmaker like Kiran Rao comes along with a script like Laapataa Ladies, followed by Maamla Legal Hai. Last year showed what I can do when filmmakers believe in me and give me strong material,” he said.
Ravi Kishan will next be seen in Bhabiji Ghar Par Hain! Fun On The Run. The upcoming comedy-drama film, directed by Shashank Bali, is based on the television series Bhabiji Ghar Par Hain! It stars Aasif Sheikh as Vibhuti Narayan Mishra, Vidisha Srivastava as Anita Vibhuti Narayan Mishra, Rohitashv Gour as Manmohan Tiwari, Shubhangi Atre as Angoori Manmohan Tiwari, alongside Ravi Kishan, Mukesh Tiwari, Dinesh Lal Yadav, Yogesh Tripathi and others.
Produced under the banner of Edit II Productions and Zee Cinema, the film was shot in Dehradun and Mussoorie. Bhabiji Ghar Par Hain! Fun On The Run is scheduled for a theatrical release on February 6.
