Ace India batter Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma will once again return to action in the Vijay Hazare Trophy on Friday, as Delhi take on Gujarat in Bengaluru and Mumbai face Uttarakhand in Jaipur in the second round of the premier domestic 50-over tournament.
After a blazing start to the tournament, highlighted by three of the fastest List A hundreds, excitement around the competition continues to soar. With records falling early, anticipation for the second round of games has reached a fever pitch.
The return of national stars Rohit and Kohli has sparked huge interest in domestic cricket. Fans have flocked in droves to catch them in action, a rare sight in India’s domestic circuit.
At Jaipur’s Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Rohit drew almost 15,000 spectators,
highlighting his immense star power even outside the international stage. Kohli, playing at the BCCI Centre of Excellence, a venue closed to the public, wasn’t spared fan fervour either, with young supporters climbing nearby trees just for a glimpse of their idol.
In the previous round, games featuring Kohli and Rohit weren’t livestreamed, sparking widespread frustration among fans who vented their anger on social media. After sustained backlash, the BCCI released a four-minute highlights package of Kohli’s knock, a step that did little to appease those who had hoped to watch it live.
That has now raised the obvious questions: will the BCCI rethink its approach this time? And will fans get the opportunity to watch Kohli and Rohit in action during the second round of the Vijay Hazare Trophy?
