Guwahati, Jul 29 (PTI) Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya on Wednesday reviewed the flood situation in the state, with special focus on the worst-affected districts of Sivasagar, Charaideo, Jorhat and Golaghat.
A detailed presentation on the current scenario was given by Additional Chief Secretary, Revenue and Disaster Management Department, L Sweety Changsan, an official statement said.
She apprised the governor of the extent of inundation, the districts and population affected, the functioning of relief camps, deployment of rescue teams, availability of essential commodities, restoration of damaged infrastructure and the measures being undertaken by the state government to provide immediate assistance to the affected people.
Reviewing the
situation, Acharya directed the departments and agencies concerned to ensure that rescue and relief operations continue uninterrupted and that all flood-affected people receive timely assistance.
He emphasised the need to provide adequate relief materials, safe shelter, potable drinking water, healthcare services and other essential support to those affected.
The governor also stressed that special care should be taken to address the needs of vulnerable sections of society, including women, children, senior citizens and persons with disabilities, so that they receive prompt and adequate assistance during the crisis.
Calling for continued vigilance, Acharya asked the officials to maintain close coordination among all departments and field agencies to minimise the hardships faced by the affected population.
He further underscored the importance of ensuring the uninterrupted supply of essential services in the flood-hit areas and affirmed that every possible effort should be made to provide timely relief and facilitate the early rehabilitation of the affected families.
The governor also appreciated the tireless efforts of the district administrations, ASDMA, SDRF, NDRF, police personnel, healthcare workers, NGOs, volunteers and all other agencies engaged in rescue and relief operations.
