Virat Kohli is in the form of his life these days. In the last one year, the right-handed batter from Delhi, who is also the second-highest run-scorer in ODIs, has scored four centuries and five fifties for the Indian men’s cricket team in 13 ODIs.
Kohli, who is one of the best batters of all time, is now preparing for the ODI World Cup 2027, which is set to be played across 12 venues in South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia next year.
Ahead of the ongoing three-match ODI series between India and the West Indies, Kohli has opened up about his World Cup plans and preparations.
In a video shared by Star Sports on Monday, the batting maestro was asked about his personal target for the upcoming men’s 50-over mega event, and he stated that he dreams of
playing a match-winning knock in the final next year.
“My dream is to play a match winning finishing knock in the finals, like chasing a score, that’s the ideal scenario,” Kohli said.

He added that if he manages to fulfil his dream, it will be great, but even if that doesn’t happen and India manage to win the title, he will be happy.
According to Kohli, since the 2027 edition of the ODI World Cup will be his last for India, he wants to win it and stated that winning the trophy is the most important thing.
“It it happens, great. If it doesn’t happen (and) we win the World Cup, I will be as happy if as I finish the game because eventually you understand that as much as that competitive nature is there on the surface, it’s the last time you getting to play a World Cup so just getting that trophy is the most important thing,” Kohli said.
“If I have the opportunity to do it… As an individual, staying there out in the middle, there is nothing more satisfying as a batsman. That drives us forward to be the guy who makes an impact. Situation difficult hai, you visualise yourself pulling the team out of trouble and that’s what makes you compete at this level. So I don’t want to let go of that competitiveness but yes the bigger goal is always greater,” he added.
Kohli has played in two ODI World Cup finals for India so far. He scored a fifty in the 2023 final and played a crucial 30-odd-run knock in the final of the 2011 edition against Sri Lanka at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
