Bengaluru’s poor footpath condition is back in focus after a Canadian man shared glimpses of the hazardous condition. The man documented clips of his son walking through Indiranagar, one of the posh localities of the city.
The man named Caleb Friesen, along with his son, was seen navigating broken pavements, open gaps, and uneven slabs along Double Road.
Canadian Man Highlights Bengaluru’s Poor Footpaths
The video captured the hazards people have to go through while walking on the streets of Indiranagar, Bengaluru. It showed cracked footpaths, missing covers, trees blocking ways, and vehicles occupying footpaths, forcing the father-son duo to repeatedly step onto the road.
“This is your signal to stop doomscrolling and start doomwalking,” Friesen
wrote in the caption. “In all seriousness, though, this is what Double Road in Indiranagar (one of Bengaluru’s most expensive neighbourhoods) is like as a pedestrian parent. Footpaths are damaged beyond repair, encroached by potted plants, trees and vehicles, and generally just unwalkable,” he added.

While revealing the reality of Bengaluru’s costliest neighbourhood, he acknowledged that the condition is still better than most Indian cities. “At least Indiranagar has footpaths. This is a huge step up from the reality of many localities in India’s metropolitan cities, where the idea of walking from point A to point B is borderline comedic,” he shared.
Friesen concluded the post, expressing hope that conditions improve in the coming decades. “I hope things change in the decades to come. Our children deserve better,” he added.
How Did The Internet React?
The video was quick to strike a chord with Bengaluru residents. While some talked about their everyday struggles, others could not bear to watch the full video.
“I walk on these footpaths every day, but I’ve gotten so used to them that I barely notice anymore,” one user wrote, thanking Friesen for opening her eyes.
“This is the actual truth of the tech city Bangalore… I really don’t know where the taxpayers’ money goes,” another commented.
“This is so sad and scary… I couldn’t even watch the whole video,” someone else noted, while others jokingly stated it seemed more like trekking than walking.
Some users urged the Bengaluru government to pay attention. “Dear Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar, could you please intervene and fix this? It’s frightening to see it like this,” one of them wrote.
