Beed, Nov 5 (PTI) A tiger spotted some days ago in Patoda tehsil has now moved into Ashti forest range, both in Maharashtra’s Beed district, officials said on Thursday.
It was captured on a camera trap installed near Bhurewadi close to the Sautada gram panchayat area on November 2, range forest officer Amol Munde said.
After the big cat’s sighting, the forest department has issued a formal advisory urging local farmers and residents to exercise extreme caution, he said.
Born in 2022 to tigress T-22 at the Tipeshwar Wildlife Sanctuary in Yavatmal, the tiger strayed out of its native habitat in search of new territory and prey and has been seen on several occasions over the past few months in Beed district.
The tiger was sighted in Kari region of
Barshi tehsil in Solapur district, before returning to Patoda around mid-October. It hunted two bovines in Sagalewadi and Jarewadi in Patoda tehsil on October 17 and was also photographed drinking at a waterhole inside Naigaon Mayur (Peacock) Sanctuary, officials said.
“While big cats typically traverse this landscape only three to four times a year, this particular tiger has been recorded twice within just over two months. Given its active presence, farmers and villagers have been advised against venturing into the peripheral areas of the forest,” Munde said.
Earlier, officials said a tiger was spotted in Beed after nearly a century. Setting out from Yavatmal, it traversed Chandrapur, Dharashiv, Latur, and Ahilyanagar districts before entering Beed, they had said last month. PTI COR BNM
