In the past few years, Premanand Maharaj’s teachings have touched millions of hearts. Those following him are not just common people but also well-known faces. In a recent video that has taken social media
by storm, one of his followers turned out to be someone no one saw coming: a man once known for his strength and fame in the world of sports.
The clip that gained widespread attention shows former WWE wrestler and baseball player Rinku Singh sweeping the floors of Premanand Ji Maharaj’s ashram in Vrindavan. The sight of a global sportsman performing humble acts of service (seva) left people surprised and moved at the same time.
Rinku Singh’s Remarkable Transformation
The video captures Rinku’s remarkable transformation. It begins with glimpses of Rinku in the ashram, dressed in monk attire with tilak on his forehead, sweeping the streets as part of seva.
The clip then traces his journey where how he first became a baseball player, then moved to WWE and finally found his spiritual calling. A caption shared along with the video reads, “Baseball, WWE to Vrindavan — Rinku Singh’s Spiritual Turn.”
According to the clip, Rinku’s journey began when he threw a baseball at the speed of 87 mph which marked the start of his professional career. He went on to become the first Indian to play professional baseball where he spent several seasons in US minor leagues and reaching the Single-A level. On his baseball journey, a film was also made by Disney in 2014 named Million Dollar Arm. It is based on his real-life story along with Dinesh Patel, two Indian pitchers discovered by sports agent J. B. Bernstein through a reality show competition.
It then moves to the next chapter of his life: his entry into WWE in 2018. There, he became known by his ring name “Veer Mahaan.” The video shows clips of his days in the wrestling ring where he fought against big names like John Cena and The Great Khali. With his forehead marked with a tilak, dressed in a dhoti-inspired outfit and wearing a rudraksha mala, his desi look made him stand out in the global wrestling stage.
The most heart-touching part of the video is his exchange with Premanand Maharaj. The spiritual leader tells him, “Agar tumko lagta hai ki tum ho gaye ho is sansaar ke layak toh ajao (If you feel that you have become worthy of this world, then come).” To which Rinku, smiling with folded hands, replies softly, “Lagne laga hai (I’m feeling it).”
