In the post titled “Relocating to Gurgaon from Bangalore”, the user explained that the decision was driven by family responsibility rather than choice. After spending most of their adult life in Bengaluru, building a career, raising children and establishing deep personal and professional ties, the prospect of uprooting has been painful.
“We have to relocate to Gurgaon as my parents are ageing and need care. But we have been in Bangalore for the last 20 years. I have a strong professional and personal network here. Kids are settled in schools. Parents are not ready to come, so we have to relocate,” the user wrote.
Ending the post on a vulnerable note, they asked fellow Redditors: “Any positives of Gurgaon which might help us with the pain of leaving Bangalore?”
The post quickly drew mixed responses. While some users tried to highlight Gurgaon’s advantages, others questioned whether such a move was worth the emotional cost.
One Reddit user pointed to geography and convenience, saying, “Mountains are nearby if you love them. Language isn’t an issue anymore. Nothing apart from the above two.” Another offered a more balanced view: “Bangalore is love, but lately with the crazy traffic it has become another pain. Gurgaon has many active communities now. You should join a few, at least you’ll have a circle that eases the pain.”
Responding to comments, the original poster clarified that they are originally from Gurgaon but had never lived there, as their father worked in the government sector and they spent most of their career in Bengaluru. “Language is not an issue. I am concerned about the mentality and attitude of people there. They are not very friendly and quick to pick up fights. Also, is it safe for girls growing up there?” the user wrote.
A reply acknowledged the concern, with one Redditor saying, “Yes, that’s an issue here. People’s mentality, especially in Gurgaon, is the worst. Also, don’t forget to invest in a good air purifier.”
Others were more direct, urging the user to reconsider the move altogether. “If you have built a life in a city for 20 years, you should not move just because your parents are asking you to. You will always regret it and make your and everyone else’s life miserable,” one comment read.
The post continues to circulate online, resonating with many urban Indians caught between long-settled city lives and the growing responsibility of caring for ageing parents.
