Air India Flight With 160 Onboard Makes Emergency Landing in Delhi After Suspected Engine Fire

An Air India flight from Bengaluru to Delhi carrying around 160 passengers and crew made an emergency landing at Delhi airport on Thursday evening after the cockpit crew received a warning indicating a possible engine fire, according to sources.

The Airbus A320, operating as flight AI2802, landed safely at the national capital’s airport after the crew followed standard emergency procedures.

In a statement, Air India said the cockpit crew received a fire indication from one of the engines during the aircraft’s final approach into Delhi, and the alert was later confirmed as genuine.

“During the aircraft’s final approach into Delhi, the cockpit crew received a fire indication from one of the engines. The indication was subsequently confirmed as true,”

the airline said.

Despite the alert, the aircraft landed safely and all passengers and crew disembarked normally without injuries, Air India added.

Sources said there were around 160 people onboard, including passengers and crew. Flight tracking data showed the aircraft landed at approximately 9.30 pm.

The airline said it has launched a full investigation into the incident in coordination with regulatory authorities to determine the cause of the engine-related warning.

“We are committed to sharing further verified information as soon as it becomes available,” Air India said.

The incident comes on the same day another Air India aircraft faced a technical issue. An Air India A321 operating flight AI2651 from Delhi to Bengaluru reportedly suffered a tail strike during landing at Bengaluru airport, after which the aircraft was grounded for detailed inspection.

That flight was carrying 181 passengers, according to reports.

The back-to-back incidents involving Air India aircraft are likely to draw increased scrutiny over operational safety and maintenance procedures, though no injuries were reported in either case.
