The 2026 Grammy Awards marked a significant night of representation for South Korea, with K-pop artists and creators making history across major categories. From record-breaking nominations to a landmark win, the ceremony highlighted how deeply Korean music and storytelling have entered the global mainstream.
BLACKPINK’s Rosé stood at the centre of the spotlight. Her hit track APT. earned nominations in three major categories: Best Pop Duo/Group Performance, Record of the Year and Song of the Year. The nods made APT. the most-nominated song by a K-pop artist at the Grammys and the first by a K-pop lead artist to be recognised in a Big Four category. While the song did not secure a win, its presence alone was seen as a milestone moment for Korean
pop on the world’s biggest music stage.
South Korean President Lee Jae Myung congratulates Rosé
At the same time, K-pop achieved a historic breakthrough in another category. Golden, from Netflix’s animated film KPop Demon Hunters, won Best Song Written for Visual Media at the 68th Grammy Awards, held at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles. The win marked the first time a K-pop songwriter or music producer received a Grammy Award, setting a new benchmark for the industry.
South Korean President Lee Jae Myung publicly congratulated the creators behind K-Pop Demon Hunters following the Grammy win. In a statement shared on his official social media, he said, “The theme song ‘Golden’ from ‘K-Pop Demon Hunters’ won the Best Song Written for Visual Media at the Grammy Awards ceremony, writing a new chapter in K-pop history.”
President Lee added, “This marks the first time a K-pop composer or producer has won a Grammy Award. We send our heartfelt congratulations on this invaluable achievement accomplished on the world’s most prestigious stage, which every musician dreams of.”
He also acknowledged artists who were nominated but did not win. “Although they did not ultimately win, BLACKPINK’s Rosé and KATSEYE’s Yoonchae Jeung clearly demonstrated their global competitiveness by being nominated, and I send them a round of encouraging applause as well,” he said.
Reaffirming his support for the industry, President Lee stated, “We will continue to steadfastly support our artists so they can showcase their talents on even broader stages. Above all, today’s success was made possible by the production staff and stakeholders who sweat behind the scenes. You are all a source of pride for the Republic of Korea.”
