An earthquake of magnitude 5.0 was recorded in Nepal on Tuesday night, according to the National Centre of Seismology, nearly two weeks after the Himalayan nation experienced catastrophic flash floods that killed more than 1,300 people.
The earthquake took place at a depth of 143 km in Nepal, according to NCS. The tremors were felt in Kathmandu and nearby areas.

Meanwhile, the European-Mediterranean Seismological
Centre (EMSC) reported a 5.3 magnitude earthquake in Tibet at a depth of 35 km.
Nepal Flash Floods
Nepal’s recent disaster was triggered by an ice-rock avalanche near the Nepal-Tibet border, sending a massive surge of water and debris downstream through the Bhotekoshi River. The floods devastated settlements in northern and central Nepal and damaged hydropower projects.
At least 1,399 people have been killed by the mudslide and more than 5,400 are missing in Nepal and Tibet. The toll includes 43 people who died on the Chinese side and 519 missing there, as of Saturday.
On Monday, the Nepali Army said around 121 people are believed to be trapped inside tunnels at the flood-hit Upper Trishuli-1 hydropower project, revising an earlier figure of about 900 people reported unaccounted for at affected hydropower projects.
The devastating flash floods have also raised alerts in Indian states, including Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Sikkim, as the Ganga River breached its Highest Flood Level (HFL) mark at Patna’s Gandhi Ghat and Pandarak.
