New Delhi, May 29 (PTI) The Delhi Traffic Police has introduced on-the-spot digital payment facilities for traffic challans, allowing commuters to pay fines through UPI, debit cards and credit cards using handheld devices carried by traffic personnel, an official said on Friday. According to the Delhi Traffic Police, violators will now be able to pay both current and pending compoundable challans digitally with the assistance of field officers deployed on roads.
Nearly 1,500 new e-challan machines are being distributed among traffic personnel across Delhi to strengthen digital enforcement infrastructure.
“These upgraded handheld devices are equipped with advanced features including faster challan generation, instant digital payment processing,
capturing photographs of vehicles and violators, and improved data management,” a senior traffic police officer said.
The devices will also send alerts to vehicle owners on their registered mobile numbers regarding towing of vehicles, he said.
In a further push towards cashless enforcement, the Delhi Traffic Police’s e-challan system has now been integrated with the Bharat Bill Payment System (BBPS), enabling citizens to pay pending and current challans through any UPI-enabled mobile application.
Police said the integration would provide commuters with a secure and seamless payment mechanism without requiring them to visit physical counters.
To ensure smooth implementation of the upgraded system, the traffic police recently conducted online training sessions for field officers, including Circle Traffic Inspectors. PTI SSJ SSJ SAP SAP
