The names of Infosys co-founder Nandan Nilekani and his family members have appeared on the Election Commission of India’s (ECI) discrepancy list as part of the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Karnataka.
The list includes 71-year-old Nilekani, his wife Rohini, 67, and their children Janhvi, 38, and Nihar, 36. They are likely to receive notices during the document verification process.
They have been marked as “Unmapped with last SIR”, a classification used for voters whose names were not found in the 2002 electoral rolls, according to a report in The Indian Express.
The Nilekanis are listed in the draft electoral roll for the BTM Layout constituency and vote at Reddy Janasangha High School in Third Block, Koramangala.
They will need to provide one of the 11 documents accepted by the ECI to establish their eligibility for inclusion in the final roll, due to be published on October 27.
Nilekani had contested the 2014 Lok Sabha election from Bangalore South but lost to BJP leader and former Union minister Ananth Kumar by 2.28 lakh votes. He also served as the founding chairman of the Unique Identification Authority of India.
The discrepancy list also includes noted scientist and Bharat Ratna recipient Prof CNR Rao and Padma Shri awardee Harekala Hajabba. Rao’s name was flagged over a mismatch with the 2002 roll, but Bengaluru Urban District Election Officer Maheshwar Rao said no notice had been issued to him and that his booth-level officer had recommended his inclusion in the final roll. Hajabba has received a notice over a mismatch in his name.
Of the 4.46 crore voters listed in the draft roll, notices have been issued to 43.81 lakh people. They must submit the required documents to Booth Level Officers by October 22.
