Sholay: The Final Cut
The cult classic, directed by Ramesh Sippy, was restored in a 4 K print and re-released in theatres, leaving audiences nostalgic. The 1975 blockbuster opened in cinemas on December 12, featuring the original, uncensored climax in which Thakur is seen shooting Gabbar. Even five decades after its original release, the movie’s dialogues, songs, and Jai-Veeru’s friendship remain fresh to viewers.
Padayappa: The Final Cut
Just like Sholay: The Final Cut, Rajinikanth’s iconic 1999 Tamil film Padayappa was re-released on December 12 to mark the superstar’s 75th birthday. The movie, once a hit with fans, topped many box-office pre-sales when the restored 4K version opened in cinemas this year.
Dhurandhar
The Aditya Dhar directorial, which opened in theatres on December 5, has been making steady growth at the box office. Starring Ranveer Singh, Sara Arjun, Akshaye Khanna, Arjun Rampal, Sanjay Dutt, Rakesh Bedi, R. Madhavan, and Manav Gohil, the spy thriller has been garnering immense praise for its intense patriotic themes.
Avatar: Fire and Ash
James Cameron’s directorial epic science fiction is the third installment in the Avatar film series, continuing the saga of the blue Na’vi. Although the Avatar films were not developed using generative AI, the series has been praised for the actors’ authentic performances and overall production. The movie, released on December 1, has been performing moderately well at the box office.
Tere Ishk Mein
Directed by Aanand L. Rai, the movie is a spiritual sequel to Raanjhanaa, and Dhanush’s fans get to see his on-screen magic yet again. The romantic drama follows Shankar, who develops a relationship with Mukti while she conducts her PhD research on him. After she ends the relationship and moves on, Shankar joins the Indian Air Force. Years later, their unresolved past resurfaces when they meet again, and chemistry continues.
Akhanda 2: Thaandavam
The Telugu-language fantasy action thriller film, written and directed by Boyapati Sreenu, stars Nandamuri Balakrishna in the key role. The sequel to the 2021 blockbuster movie Akhanda centers on a national crisis involving biological warfare and the Aghora warrior’s return to protect the nation.
Looking ahead, this month also sees the release of films like Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri, starring Kartik Aaryan and Ananya Panday; Agastya Nanda’s Ikkis, set against the backdrop of the 1971 Indo-Pak war; and Mahima Chaudhry and Sanjay Mishra’s quirky romantic drama, Durlabh Prasad Ki Dusri Shadi, among others.
