A Centralised Accident and Trauma Services (CATS) ambulance of Safdarjung Hospital was engulfed in fire on Thursday near the Moti Bagh flyover in Delhi.
The ambulance was heading back to Safdarjung Hospital after dropping a patient at Samalkha. Around 7:20 P.M., a short circuit sparked a fire in the conductor-side seat, people familiar with the matter told CNN-News18.
At the time of the incident, the ambulance was empty, and therefore, no injuries were reported. After the blaze, the driver parked the ambulance and dialed the fire department.
Meanwhile, the blaze spread through the vehicle, prompting an oxygen cylinder to catch fire. Fire tenders rushed to the spot and the blaze was brought under control.
Teams from the Forensic Science Laboratory
(FSL) were also called to assess the situation and collect evidence. It is currently being ascertained whether or not the vehicle was equipped with a CNG cylinder, said sources.
