Ryan Gosling Is Marvel's New Ghost Rider, Replaces Nicolas Cage In MCU

If you’ve been waiting to see Ryan Gosling in a superhero movie, your wish has finally come true. Marvel Studios has officially cast the actor as Ghost Rider. This marks his first-ever comic book film and the exciting announcement was made at the ongoing San Diego Comic-Con.

Ryan will now officially be seen in the iconic leather jacket and flaming skull as Johnny Blaze. This role was earlier portrayed by Nicolas Cage.

At the Hall H panel at San Diego Comic-Con, it was revealed that Oscar nominee Ryan will take on the exciting role in Ghost Rider. Marvel Studios exec Kevin Feige confirmed this development.

Taking to the stage, the 45-year-old actor said, “As you know, this is a character I’ve wanted to play for a long time.”

The upcoming Ghost Rider

film will be helmed by Shawn Levy, who recently collaborated with Ryan Gosling on Star Wars: Starfighter. Levy is also known for directing Marvel’s blockbuster Deadpool & Wolverine (2024).

Ryan Gosling further claimed that Shawn Levy convinced him to take the role.

“I’m having the greatest flashback vibes here, because I was here two years ago when we showed Deadpool & Wolverine. I’ll never forget that night, because I was introduced to the greatest fans. Gosling is the absolute s**t. I say that with tremendous respect. We spent a lot of time last year making Starfighter, and the opportunity as Ryan started talking about this character, I was like, ‘Bro let’s ride.’ We’ll see you in 2028,” Shawn Levy said onstage.

Meanwhile, there is no update on the release date for Marvel’s new Ghost Rider movie yet. Fans will have to wait for additional information.

Nicolas Cage first brought Johnny Blaze, better known as Ghost Rider, to life in the 2007 film Ghost Rider. The movie explored the superhero’s origin story and featured Eva Mendes, Ryan Gosling’s longtime partner, as Roxanne Simpson. Cage returned as the fiery anti-hero in the 2011 sequel, Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance, though Eva Mendes did not reprise her role.
