Some outfits announce themselves through excess. Dia Mirza’s latest look does the opposite as it draws you in through intention, craft, and a deeper narrative woven into every thread. Stepping out in a Banarasi
silk jacket set from Anita Dongre’s Rewild collection, the actor and environmental advocate makes a case for fashion that is as thoughtful as it is visually commanding.
At the heart of the look is a structured jacket and wide-leg trouser set crafted in Banarasi silk – an unexpected silhouette for a textile traditionally reserved for ceremonial drapes. The fabric carries palm and tropical tree motifs, intricately woven into the silk rather than applied as surface embellishment. This technique lends the ensemble a subtle metallic sheen, one that shifts with movement and light, giving the garment depth and dimension.

Part of Anita Dongre’s Rewild collection, an initiative launched in 2023 by the Anita Dongre Foundation, the ensemble also carries a message of conservation, spotlighting elephant protection and human–animal coexistence. The storytelling is quiet, but it’s powerful.
The jacket is cinched at the waist with a wide black belt, introducing a strong graphic element against the richness of the brocade. This horizontal break creates definition through the torso, sharpening the silhouette without disrupting the fluidity of the fabric.
Below, the wide-leg trousers echo the same Banarasi weave, allowing the motif to flow uninterrupted from waist to hem. The result is tailoring that feels architectural yet relaxed, ceremonial yet contemporary.
Styled by Theia Tekchandaney, the finishing touches are deliberately pared back. Flower-shaped stud earrings subtly mirror the botanical motifs in the fabric, reinforcing the theme without tipping into literalism. The restraint is elegant as nothing competes with the textile itself.
Hair by Meitei Mohandas is worn loose with a soft side part, its natural texture tempering the formality of the jacket. The makeup palette stays warm and tonal: bronze-hued eyes, softly defined lashes, and a rose-nude lip that complements the earthy richness of the silk.
In an age of performative sustainability, Dia Mirza’s Anita Dongre ensemble stands out for its sincerity. It’s Indian craft recontextualised for modern dressing, where design, responsibility, and personal style move in quiet alignment.
