Cyclone Montha Tracker Live Updates: Heavy rain, strong winds, and rough sea conditions are expected along India’s east coast from Odisha to Tamil Nadu till Tuesday due to a deep depression over the southeast
Bay of Bengal. The depression, named ‘Montha’, has currently been identified as a cyclonic storm.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Montha is likely to strengthen into a severe cyclonic storm by Tuesday and make landfall near Kakinada on the Andhra Pradesh coast. If it does, Montha will be the first cyclone this year to hit the Indian mainland. Earlier this month, Cyclone Shakthi had formed over the Arabian Sea off Gujarat coast but veered away without making landfall.
The IMD has also issued a warning of extremely heavy rainfall over Andhra Pradesh’s Rayalaseema region on Monday and Tuesday. It also issued the same warning for Odisha’s southern districts of Malakangiri, Koraput, Rayagarh, Gajpati, Ganjam, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur and Kalahandi for Tuesday and Wednesday.
