Leaving a city you love is never an easy decision, especially when it has been your home for years. But for one doctor, choosing a quieter life over the fast pace of Mumbai turned out to be the right move. She says the change gave her something she had been missing for a long time: more peace and a better balance between work and personal life.
Dr Garima Chauhan shared why she decided to leave Mumbai and move to a small town for work. While she said the city will always hold a special place in her heart, she explained that her new life has brought her more time, comfort and less daily stress.
She Explains Why She Left Mumbai
In an Instagram post, Dr Garima Chauhan wrote, “As someone who absolutely loves Mumbai, leaving it was one of the hardest
decisions I’ve ever made. It’s my home. My family is there, and a part of my heart always will be too.”
She added, “But six months later, I finally understand why I made that choice. Sometimes, success isn’t about living in the biggest city. Sometimes, it’s about choosing a life that gives you peace, time, and balance.”
Sharing a message for others, she wrote, “Choose the life you want, not the one everyone expects.” In her video, a text on the screen read, “Why did I leave Mumbai as a first generation doctor for a small town?”
She Compares Her Old And New Life
Dr Garima Chauhan said people often ask why she left a big city for a small village. She explained that after work, she now travels home in a car provided by the hospital. She also said that if there is an emergency, the hospital sends a vehicle to pick her up.
She compared this with her life in Mumbai, where she had to wake up early every day to catch crowded local trains and stand throughout the journey. She also said that delays sometimes led to salary cuts at her previous workplace.
Dr Garima Chauhan added that she and her husband were paying Rs 30,000 every month to rent a small apartment in Mumbai. In comparison, her current job provides a spacious 2BHK apartment with two balconies free of cost.
Dr Garima Chauhan’s Instagram bio reads, “Once dreamt of being a heroine, became a doctor instead.” She is an anesthesiologist and also runs her own YouTube channel.

A person wrote, “Small places are much better if there is no electricity or water problem!” Another added, “Whoever has lived in Mumbai can totally correlate!! The pain of living in and leaving Mumbai, at the same time!”
