Chennai, Sep 5 (PTI) Expressing deep grief over the tragic death of eight engineering students from Dindigul in a horrific road accident in Kerala, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay offered his condolences to the bereaved families and friends on Saturday.
Eight engineering students from Tamil Nadu’s Dindigul were killed when their car rammed into a lorry parked “illegally” on NH-66 in Thrissur district of central Keralam, police said on Saturday.
The mishap occurred around 11.40 pm on Friday at Panambi Kunnu in Kaipamangalam, when the car, travelling from Guruvayur towards Kodungallur, collided with the rear of the Maharashtra-registered lorry, police said.
Government officials were directed to swiftly coordinate with Kerala authorities
to complete legal formalities and facilitate the seamless transport of the victims’ mortal remains back to their native towns in Tamil Nadu, Vijay said according to an official release.
A team of five government officials, led by the Dindigul Revenue Divisional Officer (RDO), were sent to Thrissur. Following post-mortem examinations at the Thrissur Government Medical College Hospital, the bodies were handed over to their relatives and transported back to their respective hometowns in eight ambulances arranged by the Thrissur district collector, he said.
Vijay conveyed his heartfelt condolences and sympathy to the families, relatives, friends, and college management grieving the sudden loss of the students.
He also expressed his sincere gratitude to the Kerala state government for their assistance and cooperation in expediting procedures and providing state ambulances to convey the mortal remains back to Tamil Nadu. PTI SNR SNR ADB
