A few days ago, a tech company in Palo Alto, California, revealed a humanoid robot they had developed to help you with house chores. Priced at approximately Rs 18 lakh, the cloth-skinned 5’6″ tall Neo
can load and unload your dishwasher, fold your clothes, open the door for guests arriving at your doorstep, and grab you a cup of coffee, among many other things. Neo will also return to its charging dock just like a Roomba after it is out of juice.
But. Neo cannot perform the majority of these tasks well, if at all, in its toddler days. When WSJ’s Joanna Stern spent time with Neo and the company’s CEO Bernt Bornich, she witnessed Neo struggling with its marketed chores. Surely, it can map out your property and gradually get better at its job? Yes, but Neo requires assistance from an external operator for that.
“Payment Declined”
An “X1 Expert” will be assigned to you, who will control your human robo from the company’s office using a VR headset and help Neo get its act together. CEO Bornich asserted that no privacy will be compromised during this process.
How was it received on social media? The lukewarm take, mostly a knee-jerk reaction from people who watched Neo struggle with tasks, was that they were better off without the humanoid robot in their lives, as it required more effort to have one at home than doing the task on their own.
They were also comically worried about the eerie outcome if Neo’s subscription declined.

Expected a hot take here?
Marques Brownlee of the MKBHD tech YouTube channel has you covered. Brownlee recently took to X and asked his community to list their best hot takes about tech around them, and the responses did not disappoint. We have selected a few responses that received greater visibility.
“iPhones Aren’t Simple”
Responding to Brownlee’s viral post, a user rued switching to Apple iPhone from their Google Pixel smartphone.
“Having switched to an Iphone from a google pixel, the whole notion that an Iphone is simpler, easier or just works better could not be any further from the truth. Most of it is convoluted menus that hide things you actually want, the AI assistant is a DUD compared to gemini. I feel like Pixel’s especially are in an entire league of their own on being effective utility wise and I regret going over (sic).”

AI
Keeping it crisp and concise, a user detested the idea of baking Artificial Intelligence (AI) into smartphone cameras.
“AI in smartphone cameras ruins the whole purpose of a camera.”
“Not everything needs to be turned into an AI product. Some things are already good as is,” deplored another.
“AI is making us more and more stupid at an accelerating rate,” a third added.

No Innovations Needed
An X account simply wanted the tech companies to take a chill pill and get off their innovation desks.
“Most phone companies could benefit from taking a year off to allow for true innovation, especially Apple. At this point, phones are already powerful enough; what we need next isn’t more performance, but fresh thinking.”
Non-Removable Batteries = Scam
Another user joined the conversation and lashed out at tech companies for manufacturing “non-removable” batteries in phones that an average Joe couldn’t swap with a fresh one.
“Non-removable batteries are nothing more than a scam to push you to upgrade every 2 to 3 years. Having removable batteries would also reduce waste, which is why I cant take any tech companies seriously when they pretend to be fighter against waste (sic).”
