New Delhi is set for extensive traffic restrictions from September 11-13 as the city hosts the BRICS Summit 2026, with motorists being advised to plan their journeys in advance and allow extra travel time.
Delhi Traffic Police has issued a detailed advisory covering roads that will remain under controlled movement, diversion points, alternate routes, airport access, railway station routes and public transport arrangements.
Commuters travelling to work, airports, railway stations or across central Delhi have been urged to check the restrictions before leaving home and follow directions issued by traffic personnel. The advisory particularly recommends using the Metro wherever possible, especially for airport journeys.
Roads To Avoid During BRICS Summit
Motorists have been advised
not to plan routes through the controlled areas during the Summit period. The affected roads include:

Public Transport Services During The Summit
The advisory has also outlined how public transport will operate during the BRICS Summit.
- Buses: Necessary diversions may be introduced during VVIP movements.
- Metro: Metro services will remain available to commuters at all stations without disruption.
- TSRs And Taxis: Roadside parking will not be permitted except in designated areas. Diversions may also be introduced during VVIP movements.

Traffic authorities have identified multiple diversion points outside the controlled area to manage traffic during the Summit.
1. Dr Dinesh Nandini Dalmia Chowk (W-Point)
Not Allowed: Mathura Road and Tilak Marg.
Diverted Via: BSZ Marg and IP Marg for East and South Delhi.
For Centre, North And West Delhi: BSZ Marg – Delhi Gate.
2. Ram Charan Aggarwal Chowk (A-Point)
Diverted Via: Sikandra Road towards New Delhi and Connaught Place.
Restriction: Commercial vehicles will not be permitted beyond this chowk towards W-Point.
For East And South Delhi: IP Marg.

Emergency Vehicles To Get Priority
Despite the restrictions, emergency and medical vehicles will be given priority, with obstruction-free passage to be maintained across Delhi 24 hours a day.
Essential services and utilities will also receive uninterrupted access for essential supplies and utility operations across all zones.
Commuters Urged To Plan Ahead
The traffic advisory has asked commuters travelling to airports, railway stations and ISBTs to allow extra time for their journeys. People have been encouraged to use public transport wherever possible and follow designated alternative routes and diversion points.
Non-destined commercial vehicles will not be permitted to enter Delhi during the Summit period.
Parking Restrictions Near Controlled Roads
Motorists have been directed to park only in authorised parking areas.
Roadside parking within 200 metres of controlled roads will be strictly prohibited.
Traffic authorities have also asked motorists to follow instructions issued by deployed personnel and obey traffic rules patiently, particularly during VVIP movements.
Delhi Police Issues Security Advisory
Members of the public have been urged to remain vigilant during the Summit and immediately report any unidentified object or suspicious activity to the nearest police officer. Commuters have also been advised to stay updated through official Delhi Police social media channels and traffic portals for real-time information on traffic restrictions and diversions.
The authorities have appealed to the public to cooperate with traffic and security personnel to ensure smooth movement and safety across the capital during the BRICS Summit.
