Tirupati, Mar 30 (PTI) Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Monday said over one lakh donors — Margadarsis — have come forward to adopt more than 10 lakh families as part of the “poverty alleviation” programme called P4, in the past year.
Naidu launched ‘P4 Margadarsi – Bangaru Kutumbam’ programme on March 30, 2025, in Amaravati, which envisages the top 10 per cent of the society adopting the bottom 20 per cent to guide and mentor them “out of poverty”.
Under the scheme, “affluent” individuals who volunteer to support economically weaker families are termed Margadarsis (mentors), while the beneficiaries are referred to as Bangaru Kutumbams (golden families).
“It has been a year since we started the great initiative of achieving
a poverty-less society… In 12 months, 1.06 lakh Margadarsis came forward to adopt 10.3 lakh families,” said Naidu, commemorating the first anniversary of Public Private People Partnership (P4) programme.
Thanking Margadarsis, the CM noted that the society has witnessed both a rise in wealth and inequalities, adding that the “poverty alleviation” programme aims to create better living standards for all by 2047.
In Kuppam, the Assembly constituency represented by Naidu, he said three companies are implementing P4, adopting nearly 9,000 families. In the second year of the “poverty alleviation” programme, Naidu called for renewed vigour to accomplish higher progress.
Further, the CM called on Telugu people across the world to chip in wherever possible out of respect for him and the state, to be useful to society and families. Moreover, he also distributed some awards to outstanding Margadarsis. PTI STH ADB
