Prime Minister Narendra Modi has written the foreword for the Indian edition of Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni’s autobiography “I Am Giorgia — My Roots, My Principles”(Rupa Publications), which is set to be launched soon.
Referring to the book as “her Mann Ki Baat,” Modi draws a parallel between Meloni’s personal narrative and his own platform for public connection. Calling it a “great” honour, Modi expressed his “respect, admiration and friendship” for Meloni, whom he described as a “patriot and outstanding contemporary leader.”
Reflecting on his interactions with world leaders over the past 11 years, Modi noted that their stories often reflect deeper, universal themes — something he sees in Meloni’s life and leadership, according to a report
in The Indian Express.
“Prime Minister Meloni’s life and leadership remind us of these timeless truths… It will be well received (in India) as a refreshing story of an outstanding contemporary political leader and a patriot,” he wrote. Modi also noted the similarities between Indian and Italian values, praising Meloni’s belief in cultural heritage and equality.
Originally published in 2021 while Meloni was still in opposition, the memoir became a bestseller. The US edition, released in June 2025, included a foreword by the US President’s eldest son, Donald Trump Jr., who highlighted her “working class” roots and the patriotic tone of her journey.
Meloni’s book recounts personal struggles — from facing attacks as an unmarried mother to campaigning while pregnant. Her speeches often centered on identity and resilience, famously declaring, “I am Giorgia, I am a woman, I am Italian, I am Christian.”
Modi echoed this theme in his tribute, applauding Meloni for defending “motherhood, national identity and tradition.” He emphasized shared values as the foundation of a growing India-Italy relationship, which was elevated to a Strategic Partnership after her 2023 visit.
Their camaraderie drew public attention when the hashtag #Melodi trended after a viral selfie at COP28.
