Before Shah Rukh Khan became the King of Bollywood, he was already stealing hearts on television. Long before DDLJ or Baazigar, SRK was charming audiences with his infectious charm and charisma on Doordarshan.
A nostalgic throwback video has resurfaced on social media which shows a young Shah Rukh introducing singer Kumar Sanu on stage in his signature witty style.
The clip was shared by Kumar Sanu to send wishes for the King Khan on his 60th birthday. It took fans back to the late ’80s when Shah Rukh co-anchored an event.

In the old footage, SRK is seen standing beside a female host, who begins introducing Kumar Sanu to the audience. Playfully interrupting, the young actor asks, “Is he the one who sings in Kishore Kumar’s voice?” The host smiles and quickly clarifies that Sanu has his own unique style of singing before welcoming him on stage.
Kumar Sanu’s Birthday Message For Shah Rukh Khan
Sharing this video on Instagram, Kumar Sanu wrote a birthday message for Shah Rukh which read, “Happy Birthday Shah Rukh Khan! It’s been such a long and beautiful journey — from reality shows to Maya Memsaab, Dil Aashna Hai, Deewana, Raju Ban Gaya Gentleman, Chamatkar, Chahat, Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa, Baazigar, Pardes, DDLJ, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai… just to name a few!”
The singer went on to share how both of them started their careers around the same time and how he got the opportunity to lend his voice to SRK in the initial years of his career. He added, “We both started around the same time — I still remember getting the chance to sing for him at the very beginning of his career. Since then, he’s been such a special part of mine too. A man with a heart of gold! Love you always, Shah Rukh. God bless you.”
For fans of both icons, this crossover moment feels surreal as one of their admirers summed up the moment saying, “Sanu Sir and Shah Rukh Khan, while you have complemented each other in the journey of your own respective careers- you have built childhood adolescence & nostalgia for generations together. Thank you both.” Another added, “SRK plus Kumar is a deadly combination of romance.”
For those who grew up in the 90s, Kumar Sanu and Shah Rukh’s songs together include DDLJ’s Tujhe Dekha Toh Ye Jana Sanam to Ye Kali Kali Ankhein in Baazigar and Do Dil Mil Rahe Hain from Pardes.
