Passengers flying out of Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport can now reserve a time slot for security screening, allowing them to avoid long queues at Terminal 1 during busy travel hours.
The new service, called PreSecure, has been launched on a pilot basis by Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL), which operates the airport. It is currently available free of charge and is aimed at making the security check process quicker and more predictable for travellers.
What Is PreSecure?
PreSecure is a slot-booking system that allows passengers to choose a preferred time for security screening before they reach the airport.
Instead of joining the regular security line, passengers with a valid reservation can use a dedicated screening lane at Terminal 1. The
idea is to reduce waiting times, especially during peak departure periods when security queues can stretch significantly.
How Can Passengers Use It?
Travellers need to use the BLR Pulse mobile application to access the service.
After opening the app, passengers can scan their boarding pass and select an available security screening slot. According to information available through the airport’s app, bookings can be made up to 75 minutes before departure.
The dedicated PreSecure lane is located in the Terminal 1 security area near check-in counter 86.
Will It Remain Free?
For now, yes.
However, airport sources told Moneycontrol that BIAL is considering converting the service into a paid offering once the trial phase is completed. The report also said the facility could eventually be expanded to Terminal 2, which currently handles all international flights and some domestic services.
Who Can Use It?
The pilot is currently limited to passengers departing from Terminal 1, which handles domestic operations for airlines including IndiGo, Akasa Air, SpiceJet and Alliance Air.
Unlike airline-operated priority services, access is not tied to a particular carrier. Any eligible passenger flying from Terminal 1 can use the facility by reserving a slot through the app.
Why Is Bengaluru Airport Introducing It?
The move comes as Bengaluru airport continues expanding Terminal 1’s domestic capacity after international operations shifted to Terminal 2.
According to Moneycontrol, areas previously used for international passenger processing have been repurposed for domestic travellers. The airport has also added check-in counters and increased the number of security screening lanes to handle higher passenger volumes.
The dedicated PreSecure lane is being tested in coordination with the CISF, which oversees security operations at the airport.
Not A New Idea Globally
Reservation-based security screening is already available at several airports around the world.
Berlin Brandenburg Airport offers a free slot-booking system called BER Runway, while programmes such as TSA PreCheck and CLEAR in the United States provide faster access through airport security checkpoints.
With PreSecure, Bengaluru Airport is testing a similar approach aimed at making the departure process smoother for passengers.
