The finale of Stranger Things Season 5 wrapped things up for the residents of Hawkins. Like the rest of the characters, Natalia Dyer’s Nancy Wheeler also concluded after careful consideration.
During an interview with Deadline, the actress revealed she had one request for her character in the closing chapter.
Natalia Dyer Reveals Her Request
Fans who have completed watching the show know that Wheeler did not go back to Emerson College to pursue her education. Instead, she left the institution to go work at the Boston Herald. Talking to the outlet, Dyer shared, “At the end, I would say Nancy not being in school is something I was very adamant about. The Duffers, they’d go around a little bit and be like, ‘Well, what do you think?’ They’re very collaborative.”
Dyer thinks Wheeler’s choice makes sense, given the strong woman her character has become towards the end. “My main thing is like, I just do not think Nancy could go back to school,” she said, adding, “I just cannot see her in school.”
Natalia Dyer Has Always Been Confident About Nancy Wheeler’s Conclusion
The actress further revealed that she has been confident about Wheeler’s conclusion since the very beginning. Recalling the time when she read the epilogue, Wheeler shared, “I remember reading the epilogue like, ‘Yeah, that’s perfect.’ For me. For Nancy. I felt really satisfied. I think after everything she’s been through, I just couldn’t see her writing papers and turning them in.”
Natalia Dyer Gets Emotional About Playing Nancy Wheeler
Dyer recently took to Instagram to pen an emotional note, reflecting on her journey in Stranger Things. She shared a picture of herself dressed as her character, Nancy Wheeler, and wrote, “I’ve truly loved and learnt so much from Nancy Wheeler. Thank you, guys, for everything. It’s been an honour of a lifetime monster hunting with you.”
With a blend of investigative drama and supernatural horror, Stranger Things became one of the most popular series of this generation. After running for nearly a decade, the five-season show finally concluded its story on January 1.
