The makers of the Bengali television serial Bhole Baba Par Karega have expressed deep grief over the untimely demise of actor Rahul Arunoday Banerjee and assured that the circumstances surrounding the incident will be examined with full transparency.
The 43-year-old actor passed away on March 29 following a drowning incident while shooting for the show at Talsari Beach in Odisha. According to reports, Banerjee was filming a scene when the accident took place.
His sudden death has sent shockwaves across the Bengali entertainment industry, with several actors and filmmakers mourning the loss. At the same time, calls for a detailed investigation have grown louder. The All Indian Cine Workers Association has demanded a judicial probe and the filing
of an FIR against the show’s producers. Producers Issue Statement
As per a report by Press Trust of India, the production house released a statement on Wednesday, saying the entire team is in “profound mourning” and committed to understanding what led to the tragedy.
“We request a few days to gather accounts of the cast and crew present at the time of the tragedy, in a neutral and structured manner, so that we can present a comprehensive and accurate report,” the statement read.
The producers further stated that they are open to including representatives from Banerjee’s family and industry bodies in the inquiry process to ensure fairness and transparency. A nominee from the actor’s family, friends or the West Bengal Motion Picture Artists’ Forum would be welcome to observe the proceedings.
What Happened At The Location
Addressing reports around the incident, the production house noted that preliminary information suggests Banerjee had been rescued from the water alive and was attempting to communicate.
He was initially taken to a nearby clinic in Talsari, where reportedly no doctor was available. He was then shifted to Digha State General Hospital, where he was declared dead.
The statement also pushed back against certain media reports claiming that the actor had remained underwater for an extended period, calling such claims “in all probability incorrect.”
It was also clarified that the show’s director, Saibal Banerjee, was in Mumbai at the time of the incident and travelled to Kolkata immediately after learning about the tragedy, visiting the actor’s residence the same night.
Officials stated that Banerjee and another performer were filming a dance sequence in knee-deep water when they accidentally slipped into a ditch. While both were rushed to the hospital, the actor could not be saved.
A Career Cut Short
Rahul Arunoday Banerjee rose to prominence with the 2008 Bengali film Chirodini Tumi Je Amar, directed by Raj Chakraborty and co-starring Priyanka Sarkar. The film’s success made him a household name.
He later married Priyanka Sarkar in 2010, and the couple welcomed their son, Shohoj Banerjee. Though they separated in 2017, they reconciled in 2023 to co-parent their child.
As the industry mourns his loss, the focus now shifts to uncovering the circumstances that led to the tragedy, with the makers promising a thorough and transparent inquiry.
