‘Time To Look Ahead, Viksit Bharat Is A Commitment': PM Modi Urges Ministers To Clear Pending Work

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday chaired a marathon meeting of the Union Council of Ministers at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi, where he asked ministers to speed up governance delivery, complete pending work quickly and avoid getting involved in unnecessary controversies.

The high-level meeting, which began around 5 pm, lasted nearly four and a half hours and focused on governance reforms, administrative efficiency and the government’s long-term “Viksit Bharat 2047” vision.

According to sources, the Prime Minister received a thunderous applause from ministers at the start of the meeting following his recent five-nation foreign tour. Ministers whose departments disposed of files at the fastest pace were also specially highlighted during

the review exercise.

PM Modi told ministers that the time had come to focus on the future instead of revisiting past achievements.

“Our government has been in power since 2014, but now it is 2026. We have to look at what more we can do in the future,” he said, while stressing that this was the moment to “look ahead, not rewind”.

He emphasised that “Viksit Bharat 2047” was not merely a slogan but a national commitment, and urged all ministries to place public welfare at the centre of policymaking and implementation.

The Prime Minister also directed ministers to ensure quicker decision-making and reduce bureaucratic delays. He said government files should move rapidly without getting stuck in unnecessary procedures and stressed the need to deliver more work in less time. PM Modi also called for greater simplicity in administrative processes to improve efficiency and public service delivery.

During the meeting, presentations were made by several ministries, including Agriculture, Forest, Labour, Road Transport, Corporate Affairs, External Affairs, Commerce and Power. The Prime Minister described the reforms being undertaken by these ministries as important building blocks toward achieving the “Viksit Bharat” vision.

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar also delivered a detailed presentation on the Prime Minister’s recent foreign visits and their strategic significance for India’s global standing and diplomatic outreach.

Referring to the completion of 12 years of the NDA government at the Centre and two years of the government’s third term, Modi asked ministers to actively take the government’s achievements, reforms and welfare initiatives to the people.

The Prime Minister also laid special emphasis on expanding India’s biogas ecosystem as part of the government’s clean energy and sustainability push.
