New Delhi, Sep 15 (PTI) Delhi recorded a maximum temperature of 35.1 degrees Celsius on Tuesday, 1.3 degrees above normal, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting light rain in the capital over the next three days.
The weather department has forecast a generally cloudy sky with light rain or drizzle on Wednesday and Thursday, with a spell of very light rain likely at isolated places during the afternoon to evening on September 16.
Mahesh Palawat of Skymet said that rainfall activity is likely to decrease after the three-day period as drier winds begin to influence the region and humidity levels come down.
“The normal date for monsoon withdrawal from Delhi is September 25. However, the monsoon is expected to withdraw from Rajasthan
around September 19, which would be a delay of about two days,” he said.
“Technically, we are likely to be on time, with just a day or two’s delay in the monsoon withdrawal from Delhi,” Palawat added.
Among the weather stations, Palam recorded a maximum temperature of 34.1 degrees Celsius, 0.2 degrees above normal, while Lodi Road recorded 34 degrees Celsius, 1 degree above normal.
Ayanagar recorded a maximum of 34.4 degrees Celsius, 0.4 degrees above normal, while the Ridge recorded 33.4 degrees Celsius, 0.7 degrees below normal.
The IMD has forecast a maximum temperature of 33 to 35 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 23 to 25 degrees Celsius in Delhi on Wednesday. The predominant surface winds are likely to be southwesterly, reaching up to 15 kmph during the afternoon.
For Thursday, the weather office has forecast partly cloudy skies with the possibility of very light rain from forenoon to afternoon.
The IMD has also forecast fairly widespread rainfall over the northern plains till September 17, with isolated heavy rainfall and thunderstorms expected in neighbouring states.
Delhi’s air quality index (AQI) stood at 100 at 7 pm on Tuesday, in the “satisfactory” category, according to the Central Pollution Control Board.
According to the CPCB’s AQI scale, a reading between 0 and 50 is considered “good”, 51-100 “satisfactory”, 101-200 “moderate”, 201-300 “poor”, 301-400 “very poor” and 401-500 “severe”. PTI MSJ SGV MSJ AMJ AMJ
