WB minister announces dedicated space for mothers at bus shelters

Kolkata, Aug 10 (PTI) West Bengal Minister Agnimitra Paul has announced plans to modernise bus stops across the state, including dedicated spaces for mothers to feed their children, vending machines and CCTV surveillance.

Paul, the urban development and municipal affairs minister, said the revamped bus stops would have facilities for drinking water, cold drinks and light refreshments, besides digital display boards and charging facilities.

She also announced that fines would be imposed from September 1 for spitting and littering on roads and at bus stops, as well as for illegal parking.

“Women are a priority for the government, and we are working to ensure better facilities for them,” Paul said.

The minister said an app-based parking system would

also be introduced and warned motorists against parking vehicles on roads.

“Buy or arrange your own parking space. Parking on roads will not be allowed,” she told reporters on Sunday.

She added that separate development plans were being considered for places such as Cooch Behar and Mayapur having historic tourist spots.

She also said plans were underway to redevelop Tangra’s China Town and improve the city’s overall appearance.

“Come back within the next six months,” she said, appealing to young people to return to Bengal, and asserted that the state had now become a focus for investors. PTI SUS MNB
