New Delhi, Sep 28 (PTI) Delhi Sadan, a proposed state guest house in Dwarka, will feature a craft bazaar, food court, public plaza and rooftop restaurants showcasing local cuisine and curios, according to a DTTDC document outlining the design of the project.
The Delhi Tourism and Transportation Development Corporation (DTTDC), entrusted with constructing the facility, has estimated the project cost at Rs 119.70 crore, with the building scheduled to be completed in 21 months, the document said.
Spread over a 3,899.42-square-metre plot in Sector 19, the facility is planned as a two-basement structure with a ground floor, upper ground floor, service floor, podium level and six upper floors, with a total built-up area of 15,984 square metres, it said.
The building will include 32-bed dormitories, 36 guest rooms, six VIP rooms and two VVIP rooms, besides a discussion room, meeting rooms, multipurpose areas, administrative offices and spaces for public and cultural activities, as per the document.
The podium level is planned to house a craft bazaar, food court and public plaza, while the rooftop will have indoor and outdoor restaurant spaces. The design document said the rooftop eateries are intended to serve local cuisine and offer curios associated with Delhi.
The project is designed around a central courtyard that would serve as a social and environmental anchor, allowing greater interaction while improving natural light and airflow. Glass window slits and landscaped elements are also planned to bring biophilic views into the building, it said.
The twin 39.15-metre-high building blocks will have vertically landscaped facades with triangular openings inspired by New Delhi’s radial road network, according to the concept design.
The document also envisages extensive external lighting across the complex, including streets, pathways, gardens, entrance gates, sculptures, murals, fountains, porches and podium facades.
The complex will also have illuminated sports areas, including badminton and tennis courts or other sports facilities as per the approved layout, besides decorative and conventional street lights, bollards, gate lights and floodlights, it mentioned.
The proposed Delhi Sadan is intended to host dignitaries and government officials invited by the Delhi government from across India and abroad. Its design philosophy seeks to combine Delhi’s architectural identity, public spaces, gardens, streets and food with a modern hospitality facility, the document said.
The main entrance of the building will face the north and cater to public access, while the complex will be divided into public, semi-public and service areas, with exhibition spaces, a library, gym, rooftop cafe, parking and other facilities, it added. PTI SHB
