Major findings have emerged after the arrest of a Mysuru man for sending bomb threat emails to multiple institutions across India, including the Supreme Court. The accused, identified as Lewis Srinivas, is currently in six-day custody of the Delhi Police following a joint operation.
Police said Srinivas sent more than 1,100 hoax bomb threats to schools, courts and government offices nationwide. Several institutions, including the Delhi High Court and legislative buildings, received threatening emails in recent weeks. Multiple FIRs were registered across states as authorities scrambled to respond.
Use of 50 email IDs, dark web
Investigations revealed that the accused created over 50 email IDs to run the fake threat campaign. He used the dark web to mask his identity and was
skilled at hiding his IP address, making it difficult to trace him.
However, officials said many emails were still sent directly from his mobile phone. Messages were sent in both Kannada and English, often in large batches within a single day.
Motive linked to personal grievances
During interrogation, Srinivas reportedly said he was upset with police behaviour and delays in the judicial system. Investigators also found that he had an ongoing land dispute in Mysuru, where his father was allegedly denied a share. Officials believe this added to his frustration with legal processes.
Police described Srinivas as highly educated, NET qualified, and a former assistant professor. He holds BA, MA and MBA degrees. He is currently unemployed and lives with his mother, a retired government employee. Initial findings suggest he may have been under mental distress.
Targeting high-profile institutions
Officials said the accused deliberately targeted prominent institutions, especially courts and police establishments, to maximise fear. Apart from Indian locations, investigators found that he also sent threat emails to targets in Pakistan.
Probe continues
A laptop and several SIM cards have been recovered from his possession, and electronic devices have been sent for forensic examination. A police team has taken him to Mysuru as part of the investigation. Authorities are analysing digital evidence to trace the full extent of the operation, with further details expected as the probe continues.
