The Noida administration has booked over 60 Booth Level Officers (BLOs) and seven supervisors across three police stations for negligence and disobedience during the Election Commission’s ongoing Special
Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
According to a report in the Indian Express, the FIRs, filed under Section 32 of the Representation of the People Act, 1950, were registered on the orders of District Magistrate Medha Rupam, who said several officers had failed to report to their assigned areas despite repeated instructions and warnings. Four FIRs were lodged in Dadri and Greater Noida, covering 33 BLOs along with government school teachers and anganwadi workers.
The report also mentioned that officials said the enumeration phase places full responsibility on BLOs to match elector details with old rolls and complete Form 6 and Form 8 tasks in a time-bound manner. The administration warned that continued non-compliance could lead to salary withholding and disciplinary action.
In Uttar Pradesh’s Bahraich district, two BLOs were suspended for refusing to perform SIR duties, while another, Abhishek Singh, a primary school instructor, was booked after a BJP leader alleged that he used objectionable language over the phone while being asked about SIR form distribution. Police said the complainant submitted call recordings and chats as evidence.
In another case, District Basic Shiksha Adhikari (BSA) Ashish Kumar Singh said headmistress Shama Nafees repeatedly ignored written notices and calls to join SIR duty, while assistant teacher Anurag allegedly refused to carry out responsibilities assigned to him. The Election Commission termed their conduct a violation of service rules, following which both were suspended on the directions of District Magistrate Akshay Tripathi.
The Special Intensive Revision exercise began in Uttar Pradesh on November 4.
