Telangana Woman Marries Man From Different Caste, Parents Drag Her Out Of In-Laws' House

Tension gripped Ellapur village in Telangana’s Medak district after a newlywed woman was allegedly taken away by her parents and relatives from her husband’s residence days after entering into an inter-caste marriage.

According to the groom’s family, the couple, who had been in a relationship for some time, got married on July 6 despite opposition from the woman’s family.

Following the wedding, the couple approached the Papannapet Police Station seeking protection. Since both individuals were adults, police counselled members of both families. During the counselling session, the woman reportedly stated that she wished to live with her husband, after which she was allowed to leave with her husband’s family.

However, the situation escalated on Wednesday

afternoon when the bride’s parents and several relatives allegedly arrived at the groom’s house in multiple vehicles.

The groom’s mother, Shyamala, alleged that the group entered the house while the family’s male members were away and forcibly took the woman with them.

“When I tried to stop them, they pushed me aside and took her away,” she claimed.

Shyamala further alleged that the bride’s family opposed the marriage because it was an inter-caste union and appealed to authorities to ensure her daughter-in-law’s safe return.

The groom’s family has since lodged a complaint with the Papannapet Police Station. According to reports, police have warned the woman’s family that legal action could follow if she is not produced before the authorities or allowed to return voluntarily.

An investigation into the incident is underway.
