Some relationships begin in the most unexpected moments and slowly grow into lifelong trust. The love story of Sanjeev Sharma (Monu) and Shailja (Shalu) is one such inspiring example that continues to resonate with younger generations.

A Fateful Meeting In 1991

The story dates back to 1991, when Sanjeev was in Class 10 and met with an accident. Shailja’s father helped him on the road. When Sanjeev later visited their home to express his gratitude, he saw Shailja playing badminton — a moment that quietly changed his life.

At the time, Shailja was studying at Central Academy School. Sanjeev joined the same school, drawn by both academics and his growing feelings for her. For nearly a year, they did not speak. One day, when Shailja dropped her handkerchief, Sanjeev picked

it up, wrote ‘I Love You’ on it, and asked her to choose ‘Yes’ or ‘No’.

Shailja, a bright student, took almost a month to respond. During a school trip to Chambal Garden on Basant Panchami, Sanjeev finally gathered the courage to hold her hand and ask again. Though she did not reply immediately, their bond began to strengthen from that moment.

Soon, roses, handwritten letters, and after-school conversations became part of their innocent romance. After Class 10, they began speaking openly, sharing evenings outdoors and deepening their relationship alongside their studies.

Choosing Love Over Barriers

On December 2, 1997, Sanjeev and Shailja entered into an inter-caste marriage. Sanjeev’s family supported them fully from the beginning. Shailja’s family was initially hesitant but later agreed after understanding their bond. The wedding was held in Delhi, with Sanjeev’s family bringing the wedding procession.

Today, Shailja is the principal of Pulse School, while Sanjeev runs a business. They are proud parents of two children, both working in multinational companies. The bond between both families remains strong, with regular visits and shared celebrations.

Love That Endures

The couple enjoys long drives and travelling together. Shailja is a food lover, and Sanjeev always encourages her passions. Spirituality plays a significant role in their lives, with regular worship, prayers, and weekly fasts bringing them closer.

Sanjeev says, “The first girl I ever saw became my life partner. I still love her just as much.” Shailja adds that she cannot imagine spending even a single day away from him. Even after more than three decades, their journey stands as proof that true love transcends caste, society, and time.
