In a remarkable tale of perseverance, Pradeep Kumar, a resident of Pokhardiha village under Kataiya Panchayat of Satgawan block in Jharkand’s Koderma district, has secured selection as a Junior Engineer
(Civil) in the Railway Recruitment Board examination. His achievement has not only brought honour to his family but also filled the entire region with pride.
Pradeep, the son of farmer Naresh Prasad Yadav, comes from extremely modest circumstances. His family continues to reside in a mud house that leaks during the rainy season. For years, these adversities have tested the family’s resilience, but they also strengthened Pradeep’s determination to transform his circumstances.
Academically gifted from the beginning, Pradeep passed his Class 10 board exams in 2016 with 75% marks from the upgraded high school in his village. He went on to complete a Polytechnic Diploma in Civil Engineering from Silli between 2017 and 2020. With limited resources at his disposal, he pursued his studies with single-minded focus, preparing for competitive examinations through self-study.
This year, his relentless hard work bore fruit when he cleared the Railway Board examination, earning the post of Junior Engineer. The news of his success sparked jubilation in Pokhardiha, with family members distributing sweets and neighbours flocking to congratulate him. His younger uncle, Pappu Yadav, described him as “an example for generations to come”, while villagers hailed him as proof that “poverty and hardship cannot deter one who has determination and courage”.
Pradeep’s achievement is being seen as more than personal success. His friendly nature and humble demeanour have made him a much-admired figure among villagers, and many youths now look up to him as an inspiration.
