Sumathi Valavu OTT Release: When And Where To Watch Arjun Ashokan’s Horror-comedy

After winning hearts in theatres, the Arjun Ashokan and Gokul Suresh starrer Malayalam film Sumathi Valavu is now gearing up for its digital debut. The film has locked its OTT release date within just

one and a half months of its theatrical run.

Directed by Vishnu Sasi Shankar and written by Abhilash Pillai, the film marks their second collaboration after the blockbuster Malikappuram.

When and Where to Watch Sumathi Valavu
Sumathi Valavu is set to premiere on ZEE5 and will begin streaming from September 26, 2025. The announcement was officially shared by the OTT platform on its X (formerly Twitter) handle.

The post reads: “Welcome to Sumathi Valavu….. The best horror comedy entertainer of the year, Sumathi Valavu, is going to be released on ZEE5 Malayalam from 26th September.”

The film will be available in multiple languages, including Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Hindi.

Sumathi Valavu: Plot
The film follows the story of a spirit that sparks terrifying events and the people who come face-to-face with them. As the characters grow more connected to the haunted location, the mystery slowly unravels.

Blending spine-chilling horror with a dash of comedy, the film promises wholesome entertainment. Its title is inspired by a notorious curve in Kerala named after a young woman, Sumathi, who died tragically there. Local legend claims the bend is haunted, with those passing through it encountering eerie and unexplainable experiences. As multiple characters face these supernatural events, the story uncovers a dark mystery that blurs the lines between myth and reality, fear and grief, past and present.

Reflecting on the film and its digital debut, filmmaker Vishnu Sasi Shankar said, “Sumathi Valavu is rooted in Kerala’s folklore but crafted for a contemporary audience. It’s not just about scares; it’s about the human emotions that linger in places tied to tragedy. Through this film, I wanted to bring out the tension between memory, myth, and mystery. ZEE5 gives us the perfect platform to reach audiences everywhere who love layered, atmospheric storytelling,” as per a report by Deccan Herald.

Alongside Arjun Ashokan and Gokul Suresh, the film also stars Saiju Kurup, Balu Varghese, Sshivada, Malavika Manoj, Abhilash Pillai, Joohi Jayakumar, Sidharth Bharathan, Gopika Anil, Sminu Sijo, and many more in pivotal roles.
