New Delhi, Jun 4 (PTI) The hotel fire in south Delhi’s Malviya Nagar that claimed 21 lives has served as a wake-up call for local residents, many of whom said they have resolved to keep fire-safety equipment at their homes and business establishments to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
Residents of the area said the incident highlighted the importance of being prepared for emergencies and ensuring that basic firefighting equipment is readily available.
“We have learnt a lesson from this tragedy. Such incidents can take place at any time and anywhere. We will make sure that fire extinguishers and other safety equipment are available at our homes and shops,” a local resident said.
Several residents said the blaze has exposed the risks posed by
congested neighbourhoods and stressed the need for greater awareness about fire-safety measures.
Locals also urged people living in residential colonies and operating businesses to install fire-safety equipment and regularly check emergency exits and electrical systems.
“We request everyone to keep fire-safety equipment in their houses as well as business settlements. Timely action can save lives and prevent a small fire from turning into a major disaster,” another resident said.
