Amaravati, Sep 28 (PTI) The Andhra Pradesh government has estimated that crops in over 44,000 hectares were damaged during the recent deep depression-driven by heavy rainfall.
Officials informed Agriculture Minister K Atchannaidu that nearly 72,000 farmers suffered losses in 1,229 villages, an official release said on Monday.
“Nearly 44,029 hectares of crops were damaged due the deep depression in 1,229 villages from 190 mandals according to preliminary estimates,” it said, adding that crop loss estimation so far was carried out only in 45 villages from 19 mandals.
Likewise, horticulture crops were damaged in 1,734 hectares in 351 villages from 89 mandals, affecting 5,777 farmers.
Meanwhile, Atchannaidu directed officials to expedite the enumeration
of crop losses.
He directed them to personally visit the fields and ensure that no affected farmer is left behind. PTI STH KH
