While for millions of Mumbaikars, squeezing into a packed local train is simply part of their daily commute, it is not everyone’s cup of tea. A South Korean travel content creator who decided to experience the city’s local trains for the first time did not quite fathom the challenge awaiting him at the platform where he was supposed to board.
He documented the experience in a video and shared it on his Instagram page. At the beginning of the clip, he arrived at Thane station and bought a two-hour round-trip ticket that cost him Rs 170, which, in his opinion, was cheap.
Then he began his attempt to board a Mumbai local during peak hours. He reached the specified platform and waited for the train to arrive while he was still on the staircase. When
the first train arrived at the crowded railway station, he attempted to board but was unable to make his way through the rush. “Where’s my wagon?” the text overlaying the video asked.
Rather than giving up immediately, he decided to try again when another local train arrived. This time too, he was unable to hop onto the train due to the huge crowd. Disappointed by the sheer number of daily commuters, which made it difficult for him to get inside, he finally decided to abandon his plan and take a taxi instead.
In the caption of the post, he wrote, “Experiencing the Mumbai local train made me deeply respect the people here and reflect on myself.”
Internet Suggests Him Best Time To Take A Mumbai Local
His video of repeatedly attempting to board a local train and eventually deciding to switch to a taxi has sparked a wave of reactions among social media users. While some said that even as Indians, they find boarding a train overwhelming, others suggested the best time to take a local train.
“You got scared so quickly! There was hardly any crowd on the train and the platform,” joked a user.
“It’s ok; when I first came to Mumbai, I found it overwhelming too haha. Try going at non-peak hours and avoid stations like Kurla, Dadar and Thane,” another said.
“Honestly, I was also there last week. You should go at night time. There are such beautiful places, and the weather is also good. If you have a plan for Delhi, don’t come,” someone else shared.
An individual remarked, “You went straight to hardest mode when it comes to indian trains.”
