At G7 Summit, PM Modi Lists 4 Key Suggestions For Safe And Inclusive AI

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday outlined India’s vision for the responsible development of artificial intelligence (AI) while addressing the G7 Summit session on “Ensuring a Safe, Rapid and Efficient Rollout of AI” in France.

Emphasising a human-centric approach, PM Modi said the true measure of AI’s success lies not in the power of machines but in their ability to empower ordinary people.

“AI’s transformative potential is widely known, having touched all aspects of human life. However, the true test of AI is not how powerful our machines become. Its real test lies in how much it empowers ordinary human beings,” the Prime Minister said.

4 Suggestions For Safe & Inclusive AI

During his address, PM Modi put forward four key suggestions for the global development and deployment of AI:

• Promote safe-by-design AI systems.
• Develop common standards, testing frameworks and regulatory sandboxes so that innovation and governance progress together.
• Strengthen global cooperation against deepfakes, misinformation and cyber fraud.
• Ensure the benefits of AI reach countries of the Global South so that the technology becomes an inclusive force rather than a divisive one.

India’s Human-Centric AI Vision

The Prime Minister said India’s commitment to the responsible use of AI was reflected in several initiatives, including the AI Impact Summit held in Delhi earlier this year and the country’s MANAV Vision.

PM Modi also referred to recent remarks by Pope Leo XIV on the need for human values, inclusivity and meaningful human control in the development of AI.

“Recently, His Holiness Pope Leo XIV spoke about the importance of human values, inclusivity and meaningful human control as the foundation for the development of AI. India’s vision for AI aligns with this message of His Holiness the Pope,” he said.

Child Safety Must Be A Priority

Highlighting the risks associated with emerging technologies, PM Modi said protecting children must remain a central consideration in AI deployment.

“I firmly believe that ensuring safety for children while rolling out AI is of utmost importance. Without proper standards, the same AI which can educate children and enhance their creativity can also expose them to misinformation, deepfakes and exploitation,” he said.

“The solution lies in value systems, design and governance. We must ensure that the digital space becomes a playground for learning for children, not a tool for manipulation,” he added.

AI Access Should Be Inclusive: PM Modi

The Prime Minister also stressed the need for equitable access to AI technologies, particularly for democratic nations facing growing cybersecurity challenges.

“India firmly believes that cyberspace has to be one that furthers the global public good. Access to AI technologies must also be broad and inclusive,” Modi said.

“All democratic countries should have access to such AI models so that they can protect their critical information infrastructure and respond effectively to growing cyber threats,” he added.

PM Modi’s remarks come amid growing global discussions on AI governance, regulation and the balance between innovation, safety and inclusivity.
