Apr 30 (PTI) As heavy rains lashed parts of Kerala, bringing welcome respite from the heatwave, the IMD on Thursday issued an ‘orange alert’ in six districts of the state in the evening.
The India Meteorological Department issued an ‘orange alert’ for Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, and Ernakulam districts for three hours from 4 pm onwards.
It also predicted thunderstorms with gusty winds reaching speeds of up to 50 kmph in parts of these districts.
On Wednesday, the IMD had forecast the possibility of rain accompanied by lightning and winds of 40–50 kmph in parts of the state from April 29 to May 3.
An ‘orange alert’ indicates very heavy rainfall of 11 cm to 20 cm. PTI HMP SSK
