Jaipur, Jun 4 (PTI) Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma on Thursday directed officials to ensure transparency and quality in road construction works, warning of strict action against those responsible for substandard projects.
Chairing a review meeting of the Public Works Department at his residence, Sharma said accountability must be fixed on officers and engineers for poor-quality construction, and any misuse of public funds would not be tolerated.
He instructed officials to strengthen and expand the road network to improve connectivity between major cities and rural areas, and laid emphasis on timely completion of projects.
The chief minister also reviewed proposed greenfield expressways and discussed improving connectivity on key routes,
including Jalore-Jhalawar, Sri Ganganagar-Kotputli and Ajmer-Banswara. Plans to strengthen Jaipur’s traffic system, including the northern part of the Ring Road, were also discussed.
At the meeting, officials said the state has developed 48,748 kilometres of roads during the current government’s two-year tenure, with an expenditure of Rs 33,195 crore. This includes construction of 17,934 kilometres of new roads and connectivity to 1,756 villages.
In comparison, during a similar period under the previous government, 30,641 kilometres of roads were constructed with an expenditure of Rs 13,400 crore, officials said.
