The chaos caused by the IndiGo flight cancellations over the past few days led to a lot of frustration among passengers. The situation continues to remain dire on Friday, December 5, with over 500 flights cancelled till now. According to reports, IndiGo expects the disruption to continue till at least December 8. As the airports witness scenes of chaos, people have been asking if they can sue the airline in consumer court.
A Reddit post has grabbed attention for its rant against IndiGo. The post was shared on the subreddit r/LegalAdviceIndia two days ago. The account explained that they had to travel with their family to Singapore. They booked an IndiGo flight on November 26 from Chandigarh to Delhi and then a connecting flight to Singapore with a gap of
hours in between.
IndiGo delayed the 30-minute flight from Chandigarh several times. The aircraft, which was originally set to leave at 12:35 pm, ultimately departed at 8:30 pm. As a result, the individual missed their connecting flight to Singapore.
Internet Is Agitated By IndiGo
The person was able to rebook flights for their family but had to shell out Rs 80,000 extra for another flight. To make matters worse, the individual had planned to propose to their fiancé in Singapore and had spent around Rs 7 lakh for the trip. They explained that the stress of missing the flight “messed” with them mentally.
“The delay had happened because they believe it or not, lacked a pilot to fly the aircraft, what options do I have? Can I take them to consumer court and recoup my expenses which I had to incur because of their incompetence plus also some for mental distress all of this caused me,” the account posted, blaming IndiGo.

Redditors Respond To Possibility Of Taking IndiGo To Court
Many people were supportive of the user taking the airline to consumer court. One account detailed the process and asked the user to write to IndiGo’s nodal officer first, before escalating the matter.
Another person recalled facing a massive delay while travelling from Mumbai to Ahmedabad.
“The passengers were waiting at the gate till 8 am today and there was massive chaos. The Pune to Bangalore flight for today morning was also cancelled due to no pilot,” the individual added.
One account, which claimed to be a lawyer, explained that the user was eligible to file a case against IndiGo for negligence. “The 8-hour buffer shows that you acted responsibly. It was Indigo’s repeated delays due to lack of a pilot which is an entirely avoidable issue that caused you to miss the onward journey,” the comment read.
IndiGo Flight Cancellations
Over the past few days, IndiGo has seen widespread delays and cancellations due to operational issues. The airline has asked for exemption from the new pilot rest and duty norms till February 10, 2026, adding that it can hire more pilots and crew and stabilise its operations in the timeframe.
