GDMA to set up 3,087 new CCTV cameras to monitor waterlogging in Gurugram

Gurugram, Sep 9 (PTI) The Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority has decided to install 3,087 new CCTV cameras at waterlogging hotspots and drainage sites across the city to enable real-time monitoring and reduce response times.

GMDA CEO P C Meena, who reviewed progress of the Smart City CCTV project on Tuesday, said that to establish a robust monitoring network, the number of closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras will be increased from the existing 1,200 to 4,287 by December 2026.

According to the GMDA official, the high-tech surveillance would significantly help provide relief from waterlogging during the monsoon. As soon as water accumulates anywhere, the control room would receive an alert and action teams would reach the site within

minutes to ensure drainage.

The cameras would also identify people illegally dumping garbage on roads, and strict action would be taken against them, Meena said.

“The objective of the CCTV network is not merely surveillance, but also ensuring compliance with traffic rules and enhancing road safety. The process of issuing automated challans will be strengthened by automatically detecting violations through ANPR (Automatic Number Plate Recognition), RLVD (Red Light Violation Detection) and speed radar systems,” added Meena.
