James Cameron is back where he comfortably belongs — at the very top of the global box office. His latest film, Avatar: Fire And Ash, has crossed the coveted $1 billion mark worldwide, reinforcing the filmmaker’s
unmatched dominance over big-budget spectacle cinema. Powered by strong overseas collections and steady audience interest, the film has become the third release of 2025 to reach the milestone, adding yet another historic chapter to the Avatar legacy.
According to box office tracking platforms including Comscore and Box Office Mojo, Avatar: Fire And Ash has earned more than $1 billion globally, with international markets contributing the bulk of its earnings. Walt Disney Studios, which produced and distributed the film worldwide, confirmed on Sunday that the film has grossed $1.03 billion in ticket sales so far.
The film is the third instalment in Cameron’s Avatar franchise, which has now collectively earned approximately $6.35 billion at the global box office. Fire And Ash continues the story from Avatar: The Way of Water, following Jake Sully, played by Sam Worthington, and Neytiri, portrayed by Zoe Saldana, as they grapple with the loss of their son. The emotional thread carries forward amid the franchise’s signature visual scale and world-building.
So far, Avatar: Fire And Ash stands as the third-highest-grossing film of 2025, trailing only China’s Ne Zha 2 and Disney’s Zootopia 2. Industry analysts note that the film still has room to grow, particularly in international territories where the Avatar brand continues to perform strongly.
The film’s success also cements James Cameron’s singular record in cinema history. With Fire And Ash joining the billion-dollar club, Cameron has now directed four films that have crossed the $1 billion mark globally. Along with the Avatar films, his 1997 epic Titanic also achieved the feat. Notably, his other three billion-dollar titles have each gone on to earn more than $2 billion worldwide — a benchmark Fire And Ash is now expected to chase.
The original Avatar, released in 2009, remains the highest-grossing film of all time, with earnings exceeding $2.9 billion globally. Its sequel, Avatar: The Way of Water, released in 2022, collected over $2.3 billion worldwide. Before redefining box office records with Avatar, Cameron had already made history with Titanic, the multi-Academy Award-winning film that earned nearly $2.3 billion and was once the highest-grossing movie ever.
With Avatar: Fire And Ash continuing its theatrical run, Cameron’s remarkable box office streak shows no signs of slowing down.
